Killingit-43

Why Listen?

To get strong and lose weight many people think you have to be in the gym for a few hours a day like a bodybuilder. Today in the show we learn that that just ins’t the case. You can get strong, lose fat and feel amazing with something called minimalist training. Minimalist training is the idea of doing the least amount possible for the greatest amount of results. Our guest Pat Flynn breaks down how to get the most bang for your buck in your workouts. He also tells us what common mistakes rookies are making in the gym and what sorts of foods to eat while living the minimalist lifestyle.

Guest Bio

Pat Flynn is a fitness minimalist and believes any exercise program will improve in direct ratio to the number of things you can leave out of it that shouldn’t be there.

He is the founder of The Chronicles of Strength and chief contributor to the Chronicles Of Strength Inner Circle – a monthly newsletter dedicated to helping you reach your goals through fitness minimalism (or doing the least amount of exercise needed to get the job done).

ENH 010: Racial Divide, Multi-Cultural Theology and Longevity in Ministry with Derwin Gray

enh010art

Why Listen?

This is perhaps the most important episode of the show we’ve done. Ex nihilo means “from nothing”. This site is all about recovering some of what we lost in the Garden of Eden. This includes our bodies, our diets, or prayer/meditation life, but it also includes how we treat one another. We call that “community”. How do we relate with one another? That’s a big question we need to answer

We know that racial tension is high today in the US, and our guest gives us some very hardcore truths about the realities of the solution to these problems. They are very real truths that are hard to hear, but important for us to reconcile with one another.

Guest Bio

Derwin Gray is the founding and lead pastor of Transformation Church, one of the fastest-growing churches in America. TC is a multi-ethnic, multi-generational, mission-shaped community with three campuses near Charlotte, NC. Working toward his doctorate at Northern Seminary, Derwin is the author of four books, including The High Definition Leader, a book on developing leaders to aim towards multi-cultural churches.

ENH 008: Battling Diabetes, and Healthy Paleo baking with Keep it Real Food Co.’s Katie Coleman

Why Listen?

katie-4This show is packed with tips on baking smart without adding the extra carbs and sugar into your body. Our Guest Katie Coleman battled with Type 1 Diabetes for more than twenty years, and after some experimenting she’s developed some awesome baking hacks that aren’t only healthy for you, but they taste amazing as well. She’s leveraged that knowledge into starting a company called the Keep it Real Food co. You’ll hear how she did all of that and you’ll learn about some of the dangers of Diabetes and why it must be stopped with healthy choices.

Katie’s Bio

Katie Coleman is the owner of Keep It Real Food Company, co-host of the podcast Diabetes Unscripted, a self-proclaimed nutrition nerd, and person with type 1 diabetes for over 20 years. She was diagnosed at age 11 and followed the standard approach for diabetes care for many years. At age 26, she formed the company “Grain Expectations” – a blog and bakery focusing on whole grain baked goods. However, she quickly realized that, despite being so-called “healthy”, these whole grain foods were not actually diabetes-friendly. In 2010, she changed the name and focus of the business to Keep It Real Food Co, with the goal of creating grain-free, low-glycemic snacks and treats using ONLY naturally healthy ingredients that everyone can enjoy.

After learning about the gluten-free and paleo diets through her customers, she continued on her own dietary journey, adopting a low-carb paleo diet and immersing herself in the latest functional medicine research. When she’s not working on her business, listening to her favorite health podcast, or reading about nutrition,  she loves hiking and playing music around the San Francisco Bay Area.
